This results in the balcony being more private than normal, more sheltered from the wind, and for some people even more cozy.
One thing to note, as you see in the photo below, is that the cove balconies are located on the lower decks of the ship, they are never found on the upper decks; it’s a thing related to the construction of the ship.

On Carnival’s Excel-class, Vista-class, and Dream-class ships cove balconies can be found in category 7C cabins.
All other aspects of the cabin are the same: same size, same amenities, and same furnishings. The only thing that changes is the balcony.
In addition to the previous ones, ships in the Excel class also have cove balconies for cabins in the 7S category.
Pay attention because these are Cloud 9 Spa staterooms so they have easy access to the spa, unlimited use of the Thermal facilities, and may have exclusive spa packages and discounts.
Interestingly, on Carnival Vista, Carnival Horizon, and Carnival Panorama even some Family Harbor Suites may have a cove balcony. They can therefore be a good option if you want this type of balcony and are traveling with your family.
Finally, on Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Elation, and Carnival Paradise, the Grand Suites have balconies with a wider-than-normal metal frame and all-metal balustrade.
Pros and cons of cove balconies

The positive aspects
Privacy
The most positive thing in my opinion, and according to several reviews I have seen on the web, is the feeling of more privacy.
Since these balconies are completely surrounded by metal it will be much more difficult to hear your balcony neighbors, so you can enjoy the outdoor space in peace.
Size
One thing many people also underestimate is the increased space these balconies provide.
According to data provided by Carnival, cove balconies are about 10 sq. ft. larger than standard balconies.
Shade
If you don’t like the sun, these balconies are definitely the best choice.
There will be more shade, and you will be fresher, especially during very hot days.
Shelter from the wind
One thing I really like, and consider super positive, is the shelter from the wind.
If you have been on a cruise before, you will know that while the ship is moving, the balconies can be quite windy.
By having a larger frame, these balconies are more sheltered, so you can enjoy the outside of your cabin even while cruising or during windy days.
The negative aspects
They are on a low deck
As we mentioned earlier, unfortunately, these balconies are only found on the lowest decks of the ship.
Therefore, you cannot have them if you like to be on the higher decks.
In addition, precisely because they are closer to the sea, the balconies might be closed in case of rough seas.
The view may be obstructed
If you go on a cruise primarily to enjoy the view of the outside, these may not be the best choice for you.
The presence of the metal frame prevents you from admiring the panorama, for example, while lying on the bed (although some still have the lower part made of glass).
In this respect, the glass balcony is definitely to be preferred.
You will feel more enclosed than normal
For some people, the cove balcony will be more intimate, private, and cozy. While some may feel too closed or oppressed.
If you don’t like tight, enclosed spaces, it may not be the best choice for you.
Are cove balconies better than regular balconies?
Cove balconies are neither better nor worse than regular balconies, they are simply different.
You have to choose according to your own personal tastes and according to your priorities.
If you are looking for a more private and quiet accommodation then they are definitely the right choice for you.
Whereas, if you want a cabin that is brighter, sunny, and offers a better view then definitely choose a cabin with a glass balcony.
It is precisely for this reason that I did not include cove balcony cabins among the cabins to avoid on Carnival ships. Some people might like them and might find them even better than the standard ones.
