The Mirror takes a look inside an 'extremely violent stag do' in Majorca, which led to eight British men being arrested after the celebration erupted into a 'mass fight'

Shocking video shows violent brawl on Majorcan beach

A stag night in Majorca descended into utter chaos after the group of eight British men allegedly became 'extremely violent'.

It's claimed the stag do tourists had 'drunk excessively' by the time the incident erupted at beach club restaurant Balneario Illetas, located a little over five miles away from Palma, where it's thought the group had been staying. The mayhem ensued at approximately 7.30 pm on Wednesday, May 29, when the men - all said to be around 30 years old - allegedly ended up brawling in a frenzied scene that spilt out onto the beach.

The group is said to have reacted violently after a member of staff warned them to stop throwing rubbish and beer into the sea as their supposed actions were disturbing sunbathers and diners. They allegedly proceeded to attack staff and police, injuring one waiter and two off-duty officers.

The eight individuals, who apparently attempted to flee, were then arrested and held in cells overnight, and seven other customers and sunbathers have reportedly already pressed charges relating to the incident.

In alarming footage taken of the incident, women could be heard shouting at the brawlers to 'stop', while another onlooker said: 'I just can't believe it'. Others looked on from the eatery, filming the incident with their phones. A bikini-clad woman and a security guard were knocked over during the pandemonium, while another man wearing swimming trunks appeared to have been struck or kicked from behind.

In a statement given this morning, Calvia Council said: "A mass fight at the Balneario Illetas restaurant on Wednesday has led to the arrest of eight English men aged around 30.

"A waiter was injured after being hit in the head and two police officers were also hurt and are awaiting a medical evaluation. The incident occurred around 7.30 pm when a group of English tourists were on a stag do having gone to Illetes from Palma, because some of them were staying at a hotel in the area.

"One of the restaurant staff spoke to them about their incivic behaviour when they began to throw rubbish and cans of lager into the sea as well as annoying other customers and sunbathers on the beach. The response of the group, who appeared to have drunk excessively, was extremely violent. They attacked staff and confronted the police.

“The first to intervene were two off-duty Civil Guards. In total a Civil Guard patrol and six local Calvia Town Hall-employed police were mobilised. Police sources said they had rarely witnessed such a violent reaction on the part of the detainees who confronted the officers and tried to flee when they saw they were trapped.

“The eight people arrested have been held in police cells overnight. Seven restaurant customers and sunbathers have already pressed charges against the violent tourists..”

Calvia’s deputy mayor Esperanza Catala, who visited the beachside restaurant this morning in a show of support, stated: “It’s regrettable incidents like this, despite being infrequent, have occurred in our municipality. But let no-one be mistaken, we are going to be inflexible with this sort of people that we don’t want in Calvia and we are not going to let them get away with anything.

“We are not going to allow anyone to come here that puts the security of our municipality at risk and damages our image. They need to take note and go somewhere else if they don’t know how to behave.”

Meanwhile, The Sun reports that sources have claimed the group had been set to attend a wedding in Majorca this coming weekend, however, officials have not yet confirmed this. It remains unclear whether or not the wedding will proceed, with the arrested men expected to be brought before a court tomorrow, after which a judge could keep them in custody while the investigation continues.

It also remains unclear if the bridegroom and best man were among those arrested. An insider also told the publication that some of the party had been staying at a 'very expensive' Palma hotel.
